Beaded rope halters by Sharon Lewis

I got a call from a woman in Texas who had seen and used our Max Tack halters.  She liked the fit and quality of the rope.  She had an idea to add beads to make a functional yet attractive halter.  The results look great.

Invisible Rein Extender and Holder

There was a discussion sometime ago on the MRER Facebook page about rein extenders. At that time I had an idea and said I would work on it. Throughout the summer and fall I made a few prototypes of a simple but useful piece of equipment. I call it the “Invisible Rein Extender and Holder. It’s a strap which doesn’t allow your reins to fall over your horse’s neck when it puts its head down to eat or drink. One of the problems with normal extenders is that they were always in the way, either I was sitting on them or they interfered with my holding of the reins. My unique design keeps them out of the way until they come into play when the horse puts its head down. The other problem with extenders is that unless you were quick to grab them sometimes you wouldn’t catch the reins and they would fall down on your horse’s head anyway. My design attaches the extender to the saddle so you never have to think about grabbing it in a hurry. It is especially useful for photographers on horseback who need both hands to hold their camera. The reins won’t fall away while you or they are getting that best shot. Also if your horse is a good eater or drinker on trail the IRE&H can be adjusted to the correct length so that it allows the horse to put its head down without us grabbing the reins and giving them mixed signals when they hit the end of the reins and bit before they get their drink. The IRE&H is also designed that if a horse gets loose the reins will stay off the ground and in case they do get entangled will break and not hurt the horse. It makes a great gift or stocking stuffer for your equestrian friend or for yourself. They are $6.95 plus tax and shipping when applicable. Give a call or email us and we’ll get them out to you ASAP.

January will see the change

Thanks for all of you who have followed and visited our website/blog.  Starting January 1, 2012 Lynn Cudlip and Mark Daily will be taking over the “endurance” retail side of Max Tack.  It will become Flattop Tack with Lynn and Mark’s new ideas and enthusiasm.

Hopefully at that time I will make the changeover of this site to reflect the new emphasis Max Tack will be taking.

We will concentrate on barefoot and booting for horses locally.  Randy has been building his trimming clientele here in the Boulder, Longmont, Hygiene and Lyons Colorado area.  We will fit and sell Easycare boot products especially the Easyboot Glove which we have been using successfully for two seasons now.

I will also continue to make and sell rope halters and leads which started the business 20 years ago.  Max Tack halters and leads have been a quality piece of equipment for trainers and everyone at affordable prices.

Max Tack also has become a manufacturer of some interesting items for the horse enthusiast.  Cheryl continues to make her rope baskets with her unique shapes and wonderful colors.  Randy has developed two pieces of equipment that he is manufacturing.  The seretta is already featured on this site.  “Soon” to be revealed is the new Invisible Rein Extender.  More on that “soon.”

Again thank you all for your patronage and we’ll see you out on the trail.

Halter Sidepull

We sometimes get inquiries about riding in a rope halter.  Pictured is my Rope Halter Sidepull. It’s a nice alternative to using a bit if that works for your horse and you.

Many trainers start young horses with a side pull. This allows the horse to learn directional signals without placing pressure on a sensitive mouth. Horses that are uncomfortable carrying a bit can respond well to a side pull. Horses with dental problems, malformed jaws or other facial injuries may be more comfortable in a side pull than a bit.

Using a side pull on the trail makes it easier for the horse to snack and drink.

This halter is 6mm mountain climbing accessory cord.  The rings can be adjusted up to the nose knots or down to the Fiodor knot where my hand is.  Brass or silver colored rings are available.  Thicker or thinner, stiffer or softer rope also available.  I will work with you to get the correct dimensions so the halter will fit snuggly.
